Q&A - Taxation
Central Sales Tax

We have a private limited manufacturing unit in Maharashtra. We purchase goods from various states against C form by paying CST at the rate of 2 per cent. We also supply the finished goods to various states against C form at the rate of 2 per cent CST. Can we get the set-off for purchase of goods of CST while calculating payment of CST at the rate of 2 per cent? If 'Yes', against which circular or rule? If 'No', then how should we calculate payment of CST?

Changes in Octroi

My question is related to the alterations happening in octroi in Pune. Octroi on all IT products have been reduced from previous 7 per cent to 3 per cent. Initially it was charged on Invoices but now it is said that it will be charged on 70 per cent of the MRP. Normally MRP on IT products is quite high. As a result we end up paying a huge amount as octroi. Please clarify this structure.

I want to know about the exemption given for service tax on IT services. We are authorized service providers for a leading printer manufacturer. Our last year's service revenue was below Rs 8 lakh. Please advise if we should pay any service tax this year or not..
